This painting was all but done months ago — completely finished except for one small corner that needed the slightest touch. She sat quietly in my studio for weeks, like a perfectly patient dark beauty, admired by every single visitor.
Apparently, I needed the perfectly quiet rainy Sunday to revisit her and finish this singularly gorgeous painting. I don’t often lean into the dark colours (navy and deep purples here), but when I do, I love finding shapes in the shadows and creating striking contrasts with the light.
I don’t think my photos quite do her justice but can promise she’s an even more stunning stunner in person. You’ll notice some added surface texture on this painting, a natural result of the layered brushwork and creative journey that brought her to life.
