An important part of painting for me is following my curiosity and embracing the process of discovery by trying new things in new ways. Here, that meant setting aside my usual bright colours (what, no pink?!) and seeing what I could do with a more neutral palette.
I can honestly say, as pretty as it looks now, this was one of the most challenging paintings in the collection. It sat in the “so close!” stage for a long time, taking extra time, extra paint and all my creative energy to finally squeeze this perfectly lovely bunch out of my imagination and onto the canvas.
Please note that this painting has some extra surface texture, a beautiful record of the time, detours of discovery, and the one-stroke-forward, one-blob-back creative process — layer upon layer of paint that brought this piece to life.
