Finding quiet in the garden is one of the most restorative aspects of nature, and I wanted this painting to reflect the kind of peace that lives amongst the flowers and leaves. While there's a traditional feel to this arrangement, playful details—like a spray of pollen dots and curious leafy shadows—flow throughout in a contemporary way. I warmed the colours with cream rather than white, and was pleasantly delighted by how it immediately tempered the feel, creating a sense of calm. She's both regal and restful and oh-so lovely.
