Someone's selling your art without permission?

Discovering your artwork for sale on a website or marketplace without your permission is a horrible feeling. Unfortunately, it's something I've experienced more than once, with my paintings appearing in listings by sellers and galleries I've never had any dealings with.

Getting these listings taken down takes time. You need to document the infringement, gather evidence that the work is yours, find the right person to contact and navigate the platform's reporting process. And there's no guarantee the image won't pop up somewhere else.

I've put together a practical copyright checklist for artists, including a template for writing a copyright infringement notice, to help other artists understand where to start and what to do next.

It's not legal advice, and reporting procedures vary between platforms and countries, but I hope it makes the process a little less daunting.

Because making art should be the job. Chasing copycats shouldn't have to be.
