Autumn Studio Update
If the grey skies and cold wind blowing around are any indication, we've definitely fallen into fall! The seasons are a-changing and there’s plenty a-happening in the studio too.
So, here's a little hello from the studio. Still here! Still painting!
I've been working on, thinking about, planning for and generally tangling with all sorts of things in the studio lately. There's been a lot going on, so I thought I'd share a little of what’s been occupying my time and my brain.
Back to Landscape Painting
Autumn is my favourite time of year, and with winter all too near on the horizon, I'm trying to get outside as much as possible. I love soaking up the autumn colours and paying close attention to all the little details of this beautiful, blustery season.
The closer I look, the quieter I get, the deeper my connection to the natural world feels. As a result, I've been circling back to landscape painting.

I'm working on finding something new in my brushstrokes, or at least creating pieces that seem to say something new and fresh to my eyes. In all honesty, it's been really difficult. I'm not quite sure why I’m being so impossibly hard on myself!
I've thrown out more work than I've saved, but I am beginning to see things happening that I’m hoping will come together into a small collection of big landscape paintings next month.
More Colour, More Abstract Painting
I've said it before and I’ll say it again, blobs of colour and abstract expression are EVERYTHING to me. Time and time again it's colour that restores my heart and puts that flounce back in my bounce.
Abstract painting is not something I ever really set aside or put down, even when other things are technically further up the TO DO list. So yes, you can expect more abstract paintings ahead!
In fact, I'm already four paintings into the next collection, a continuation of the 'Happenstance' series, which just didn’t feel finished. Clearly, I'm not done with exploring its layered, curious process either.
It's going to be a colourful winter in Studio Bee.
Happening Behind the Scenes
I was also thrilled to be included in a collaboration with five other UK-based female artists and designers for a 'book' of luxury gift wraps, and I’m very excited to see the finished results, landing on my doorstep soon. I'll share a little peek over on Instagram when they do! For now, there's a little video below from a day out at the printers watching the books get bound.
